Maruti India has increased its automatic portfolio by adding the AMT to its popular hatchback, the Wagon R. The gearbox, which is the same unit doing duty on the Celerio and the Alto K10 will be on offer on both the Vxi variants of the Wagon R as well as the Stingray.

Pricing details-

Wagon R-
Lxi (0) - rs 4.39lkhs
Vxi (0)- rs 4.64lkhs
Vxi AMT- rs 4.76lkhs
Vxi AMT (0)- rs 5.09 lkhs

Lxi (0) - rs 4.58lkhs
Vxi (0)- rs 4.86lkhs
Vxi AMT- rs 4.98lkhs
Vxi AMT (0)- rs 5.31khs

In addition to that Maruti is now offering dual airbags as well as ABS as an option even on the base variant which is a great move.

Now back to the AMT, for those who are unaware of its functioning, I shall shed some more light on it.
The transmission in its functioning is just like a normal manual one, however the clutch pedal is absent. There is an electronic hydraulic shift actuator present on the transmission which operates the clutch and the gear shifts. Sums the mechanicals are like the manual, it allows the AMT will be cheaper to buy and even cheaper to run since fuel efficiency figures won't drop too much
