Volkswagen Will Not Sell Stakes To Suzuki

Postby YashD » Sun Sep 18, 2011 5:00 pm

Volkswagen and Suzuki decided to part ways after Suzuki took a decision to set off on its own a few days earlier. Suzuki, on whom Volkswagen was relying to make major headway into the Indian car market, especially when it comes to small cars and hatchbacks, acted in accordance and went on to call off the joint venture. Mr. Martin Winterkorn, Chief Executive of Volkswagen speaking at the Frankfurt Motor Show said that though the company had looked upon Suzuki as an option, they were capable of doing it on their own.
The joint venture between Suzuki and VW which lasted two years ended with Suzuki accusing VW of violating a joint understanding in a diesel engine supply pact with Fiat of Italy.
Mr. Osamu Suzuki, Chairman and CEO of Suzuki had expressed his desire to purchase Volkswagen's 19.9% share in his company but the offer was rejected by VW who said they had not interest in selling their part of the deal. This war of words continued between the two companies for some time following which they have decided to part ways.
So, guys what do you think about this decision. Do post your views....
