~To Showcase how far can an Isuzu D-Max pick-up truck go in one full tank and its real world fuel efficiency~

New Delhi, 23rd September, 2014: Isuzu Motors India, the diesel engine expert, today flagged off its three day Isuzu Max Run Challenge from Vijayawada to Mumbai. Mr. Toru Kishimoto, Vice President, Isuzu Motors India flagged off the drive at 06.00AM from Vijayawada.

The objective of this drive is to showcase inter-city range fuel efficiency of Isuzu D-Max (pick-up truck) in Indian road conditions. During the three day drive, three Isuzu D-Max (pick-up truck) will attempt to cover the distance between Vijayawada and Mumbai in one full tank capacity. Starting from Vijayawada, the vehicles will pass through Hyderabad, Solapur, and Pune before culminating the drive at Mumbai on 25th September.


All three vehicles have been equipped with GPS Telemetry System. Data generated by these GPS system will be collected and monitored to iron out manual errors, validate the distance travelled and track the drive in real time. It will also help assess the performance of Isuzu D-Max pick-up trucks in Indian condition during the three day drive in tough Indian terrains, traffic and up-hill areas by passing through the states of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Maharashtra. Leading audit firm KPMG is the drive process auditor and it will independently validate the drive.

Flagging off the drive, Mr. Toru Kishimoto, Vice President, Isuzu Motors India, wished good luck to the driving team and said,
“The Isuzu Max Run Challenge is Isuzu’s global initiative to test and prove Isuzu vehicle’s fuel efficiency, durability, reliability and range under real-world conditions. This challenge has been successfully completed in Australia, Philippines, Thailand, Middle East and Malaysia. With the same philosophy, we are undertaking the Isuzu Max Run Challenge in India to showcase that the Isuzu D-Max performs similarly on Indian road conditions as it performs globally”.


Vijayawada was preferred as the flag-off location for this 3 day Max Run Challenge because the new capital of Andhra Pradesh will be around Vijayawada. In addition to this Vijayawada is an important market for Isuzu. Further, Isuzu is coming up with its manufacturing unit in this state as well.

The participating drivers in the Isuzu Max Run Challenge includes a mix of Isuzu dealer salesperson, D-Max customer and a commercial vehicle driver, the objective of which is to help prove that anyone can get good mileage from an Isuzu vehicle by applying correct driving techniques.

The mighty D-Max is propelled by a 2499cc, 4-cylinder intercooled turbocharged diesel engine, mated with a 5-speed manual transmission. This powerful engine pumps out 134 hp power @ 3600 rpm and 294 Nm torque @ 1800-3200 rpm range, which enables D-Max to carry a payload of 1.2 tonnes effortlessly. With a 76 litre fuel tank, Isuzu DMAX sports a bold and aggressive look on the outside and sophisticated, passenger-car like interiors, making it a pride for the owner.

Isuzu Motors India Private Limited, a subsidiary of Isuzu Motors Limited, Japan was established in August 2012 in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Headquartered in Chennai, Isuzu has a regional office in New Delhi. At present, Isuzu has a contract manufacturing agreement with Hindustan Motors (HML) under which HML is contract assembling CKD kits of Isuzu’s sports utility vehicle MU-7 and pick-up truck D-Max, at its Thiruvallur, Chennai plant.

Isuzu began civil works on its proposed manufacturing plant site in SriCity, TADA, Chitoor, AP. The company had acquired 107 Acres of land in 2013 after signing MoU with the Andhra Pradesh State Government in order to start automobile manufacturing operation in India. This new facility is likely to commence commercial operations by early 2016, with the initial production capacity at 50,000 units/ year. Isuzu will scale up the production capacity to 120,000 units/ year, with the accumulated investment of Rs. 3,000 Crore, and is expected to generate 2000~3000 jobs.

Isuzu Motors India plans to achieve 100% percent localization within three years of commencing production in 2016. It is an exemplary showcase of Isuzu’s long term commitment to the Indian market.

New Delhi, 25th September, 2014: Isuzu Max Run Challenge, a three day drive organized by Isuzu Motors India Private Limited between Vijayawada and Mumbai was held from 23rd September to 25th September 2014.

KPMG in India were the Process Advisors & Evaluators of the Max Run Challenge drive. Upon the conclusion of the drive the process evaluation report was presented by Raajeev B Batra, Partner KPMG India to Mr. Takashi Kikuchi, Managing Director, Isuzu Motors India in Mumbai.

Starting from Vijayawada, three Isuzu D-Max pick-up trucks drove though Hyderabad, Solapur and Pune before reaching Mumbai, thus covering the distance of more than 1000 Kms in one full tank.
With a 76 litre fuel tank, the Isuzu DMAX sports a bold and aggressive look on the outside and sophisticated, passenger-car like interiors, making it a pride for the owner.

The Isuzu D-MAX achieved an average of 18.3 kms per litre under real world conditions. The vehicles were equipped with the GPS Telemetry System in order to facilitate the exact kilometers traveled and track the drive in real time.

Commenting on the occasion, Mr. Takashi Kikuchi, President & Managing Director, Isuzu Motors India, said,
“It is an important and exciting day for us, since our three day Isuzu Max run challenge concludes today. We are extremely happy to have organized such a drive. The Isuzu Max Run Challenge is a global initiative that has been successfully undertaken in Australia, Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia and the Middle East. World over the Isuzu D-Max is known for its excellent fuel efficiency, power, torque, operating economy and we wanted to prove the same in India as well.”


He further added,
“The three day drive has not only facilitated in demonstrating the USP of the vehicle, which is fuel efficiency & vehicle performance but has also established the fact that with correct driving technique, anyone can get the best out of an Isuzu. Isuzu has conducted fuel efficiency training in different countries and we would like to extend this for the Indian customers too.”


In India, the pickup truck segment is one of the largest and fastest growing segments in Commercial Vehicles (CV), accounting for 35% of the total CV market. Maharashtra is the biggest pickup truck market in India and an integral part of Isuzu’s growth strategy.

The three day drive was flagged off by Mr. Toru Kishimoto, Vice President, Isuzu Motors India at Vijayawada on September 23, 2014. Three professional drivers drove through the states of Andhra Pradesh, Telengana and Maharashtra covering diverse terrain of India from the east coast to the west coast.
