Audi Issues Stop-Sale on Diesel Vehicles

Postby jskandhari » Tue Nov 17, 2015 12:19 pm

Audi and Volkswagen are following Porsche in halting sales of models equipped with the 3.0-liter diesel V6 engine that the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) now says is equipped with "defeat device" software, a new report says.

Now, however, VW is reporting that around 800,000 cars, mostly with 1.4-litre diesel engines, may have an issue with their carbon dioxide emissions as well. VW's stop-sale covers the 2015-2016 Touareg TDI, and Audi's covers the largest group of all - 2015-2016 TDI variants of the A6, A7, A8, Q5 and Q7 are all affected.

In addition, Porsche has also stalled the sales of the diesel model of its 2014-2016 Cayenne SUV.

The credit downgrade follows new revelations by federal environmental regulators earlier this week that the company's emissions cheating has grown beyond initial violations that affected almost a half-million diesel vehicles. Involved were 1.4-, 1.6- and 2.0-liter diesel engines and a 1.4-liter gasoline engine with fuel-saving cylinder deactivation technology.

Audi Takes responsibility for V6 TDI

Postby jskandhari » Thu Nov 26, 2015 10:21 am

Volkswagen chief executive Matthias Müller has said the company will deliver technical details on fixing cars fitted with emissions-rigging software to German regulators by the end of the month.

Last week, representatives of Volkswagen and its Audi division met with officials from the Environmental Protection Agency to present proposals for making cars in the United States compliant with clean air rules. The discussion was for the 3.0-liter V-6 diesel engines. (Rest of the cars require more than just a software update.)

Earlier Audi had denied that the 3.0 L Diesel heart on sale in North America was fitted with this Defect Device/Cheat Software & the Halt of Sales was due to EPA stating they were equipped with the same. Audi has taken responsibility and is now coming up with an auxiliary emission control devices (AECD) for the US version of the V6 TDI to be installed once approved by the regulators.

The USA agency said in a statement that in a meeting Friday,
“VW and Audi officials told EPA that the issues EPA identified in the November 2 notice of violation extend to all 3.0 liter diesel engines from model years 2009 through 2016”.
